THE YEAR WAS 1924…
… A loaf of bread was a dime, bottle of Coke a nickle, and you could buy top quality sirloin steak for 29 cents a pound. Not knowing The Great Depression was just on the horizon, Lawrence native From George opened the doors to George’s Market in his hometown. His passion to become known as the Butcher for the primarily Lebanese and Italian population was quickly realized, and soon his customers were buying over 2 TONS of LAMB A WEEK! The family market soon became known for its incredible quality, great selection, and friendly service. So much so that when the Great Depression actually did take hold of the nation, George’s Market continued to thrive, and did so for another generation!
FAST FORWARD TO 1986…
… While the Red Sox and Patriots are both giving New England seasons to forget, a Third Generation of Georges give the area something to remember by opening “The Prime Butcher” in Windham, New Hampshire. Inspired by his father’s commitment to excellence that was ingrained in him since birth, Stephen George took the Butcher business to a new level, adding gourmet specialties, produce, and market items.
AND NOW IN HAMPSTEAD…
… A Fourth Generation has taken the reigns and opened “the Prime Butcher” at 201 Route 111, also known as “The Hampstead Commons”. Stephen Jr. literally grew up in the Windham store, being dropped off there directly from school at the age of 15. He’s used his knowledge of the business to expand on the concept by offering a total shopping market experience, based on a level of product and customer service that supermarkets can’t (or wont) offer. If he could see what his little market in Lawrence has evolved into, we’re sure From George would be amazed.
